Need some pointers
« on: February 16, 2017, 04:42:27 pm »
Hello everybody, I've been attempting to make DNB and I made a drop (I know there are lots of things wrong with it) if you could listen and tell me things I can do to improve it, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks :)

Hey! Well..everything can always be improved upon. Lets just talk about the things that stick out most.

The melody completely turns me off immediately, as well as the sound choice.  Your other sound choices arent bad though. Also, this is more like a 4x4 beat with a hint of drum variation here and there, just go listen to a DnB track and study the kicks and snares and then just copy that and start from there.  Good luck and keep working!

Like the previous person's comment I'd start with getting the drums right. Somewhere in this netsky video he explains some stuff more in depth on that topic:

Next, I would recommend working on the melody. The idea itself seems a bit too long. There needs to be a circular type of progression to it. It should be repeating itself. If you check out some stuff on basic music theory it should help you out. Certain combinations of chords will give you a resolving feeling and these will help make your melody/chord progressions flow better.

Cheers!
