Any idea how SOPHIE creates sound effects like latex gloves, balloon popping, bubbles (?), etc. Do you think he analyzes the wave shape of a recorded sound and tries to recreate in a synth? Any idea what VST he uses? Thanks.

One thing that happens when I try to make growl basses is that they tend to either sound muddy or watery when I try to add movement to them. Any tips for avoiding this?

Make sure you're not going too low into the bass range any pitch modulation, and make sure you're not OVERmodulating. A few big modulations or a bunch of very small modulations forming one main modulation can often achieve the effect better than a bunch of wild and crazy movements. Other than that, try taking a peak EQ and cutting a few dBs around the 200 Hz range (sweep around in that area to find the right frequency point) to remove that clutter.

So, I had a go again at the skrillex growl and I decided to go with the Still gettin' it growl :D

Hi, I have been working on a scary monsters style growl. It's difficult to get them clean sounding. I think the sub bass is too prominent in this sound.

Wow, nice. That is some intense processing, man.
Is the basis of that from fm synthesis? It sounds like a really simple patch (Which I'm guessing most of skrillex's are, before processing). So much of the vowel sound comes from the processing.

why don't we share the patches/processes of how you made the sound?

Serum is your best bet when making a growl. If you don't have it or know how to edit wavetables, then shoot me a message and I'll do my best to help you!

Was fucking around in serum, normally don't make these kinds of sounds but this one actually turned out pretty cool (I think). I did a bit of post proc with some native ableton effects, but the bulk of the sound design was within serum itself.

Serum growl bass powahhhhh

Just used standard wavetables. Didn't even need to load a sample or do any wavetable editing for this one.
