In the movies "How to train a dragon" they actually recorded a donkey as foundation to make the "voice" of the black dragon character, but usually for movies, they resample lions growls layering them with other sounds from nature pitched up, to have as much as possible something that rensembles a natural sound.

That's cool! I guess that's also why I have so much fun with Sculpture. It might never sound as natural as a real-life sample, but it is also pretty amazing what you can accomplish with Sculpture.

I don't know if any of this stuff would fit into an EDM track, but I've made some strange growly things recently.

Something that sounds like a mix between an animal and a machine.

And a silly talky kinda thing.

Any chance I could download these sounds and use them for weird atmospheric shit?

A little suggestion, that can benefit others too, use 2 voices instead of 1 and phase them to make them wide, while checking for the mono compatibility and stay in control of possible phase cancellations.

Wow. Thanks for the compliment. I'm glad you like my sounds.

On the flip side, I just made a pretty big post explaining how to make the first sound in Sculpture. I could take time over the weekend to breakdown the other sound too.

There are also other Physical Modeling synths out there like Modelonia.

Those are some sick growls, I should really learn to post process stuff better to get better and more unique sounds. Any suggestions?

Thanks dude! The thing that have given me most results when it comes to post processing is to sit down and learn every single effect. I for example read about the effects, test the effects on diffrent waveforms while analysing through spectrum analyzers, exoscope and spectrograms :). The first growl of the ones i posted is made from just a detuned saw wave with three voices going through an eq, then a high pass filter and a notch to make the formants, then a distortion and a compressor to even out the levels, nothing more :) the other sounds have been processed with ringshifters and stuff, but the distortions used makes up pretty much 99% of the sound

Thanks man, I definitely know the trick I just never seem to be able to get them right without phasing really bad when checking in mono. I'll keep messin' with it though!

I made this with ZynAddSubFX (it's better than massive...) and then loaded it with some distortion effects

made this baby by resampling a potato chip bag  :-* :-*

Care to share what processing you did to get the end result?
