« on: February 09, 2017, 06:48:10 pm »
So recently i got iZotope Ozone 5 and i just wanted to get some tips on how to use it properly.

Still pretty new to the whole Mixing and mastering.

Here's a recent track i'm working on.

what dont you understand about izotope in particular? . imo focus more on your mixing... I feel like you need to tighten up the bass and kick drum on the second drop, like make that section more defined.

when you have a good mix, then you can use izotope for master eqing, so adding some high frequancies etc... ( just small adjustments ), compression, stereo imaging just to again add or remove some width from specific bands, and then maximizer to add some loudness.

I suck at explaining things, so hopefully I helped you and didnt confuse you even more :D

I agree with Jaidyn, the iZotope Ozone suite should just be used at the end of everything. Pretty much get your song sounding as good as you possibly can while you're producing it, but leave yourself some headroom (at least 3dB I would say). The 3dB of extra space will allow you to add saturation/subtle distortion and boost whatever you need to. At that point bring it into iZotope and try playing around with some of the presets to start. With this track in mind it does feel like the drums need to be hitting harder, so that's something you'll have to fix in the mix before you bring it into iZotope. That said though I like the composition of the track, so keep at it!

As for mixing, if you're ever feeling lost with a mix...try the pink noise mixing technique!
Pretty much the idea is you play pink noise in your project and one other element from your track and adjust the level of the other element until you just barely hear it over the noise. Sounds crazy I know, but it actually can save tons of time for levelling. The idea here is it gets you close, but of course it won't be perfect immediately.

Mastering is the final touch on the cake, get good at mixing first. Most mixing can be done with sidechains, compression, and eq. Really easy. You just gotta learn the techniques! Can't stress enough how important knowing how to mix is.
