First Daw
« on: January 13, 2017, 02:12:00 pm »
I have been creating music on SoundCloud for quite some time, but I have decided it is now time to step up my game with a DAW. I am wondering what your suggestions are for me to use because I am overwhelmed and scared I will be spending my Money on software I will hate. Please leave some suggestions with some of the pros and cons if possible. Thanks!

lucky for u, almost all of them have demos!

the main ones are
FL studio
Reason
Ableton Live
&& logic, which has no demo bc the demo version is just garageband.

there are others like Bitwig Studio and Reaper that I'm not familiar with enough, but these are the big 4. all of them have almost identical functionality, just with different ways of getting there. i would either pick the one that looks the coolest, or download the demos and spend some time goin thru the basics with some tutorials or something. that will help you figure out which one fits you best! hope that helps.

Take careful considerations as to how your work flow will be, also consider that your work flow might evolve. The daws do have specifications about their primary purpose and use.

even though it's the same things, they are a little different and those nuances do have designed purpose.

How did you create music on soundcloud without a DAW?

try everything, and you'll soon see what you like

I played with FL at the very start, then was on logic for awhile, but now on ableton and love it

It's like Marrow Machines says, every DAW has it's own work flow and you need to find one that fits yours.

I started with Cubase and now I work with FL Studio. I've also worked with Ableton and Reason, but in my opinion and for my work flow FL Studio is the best and Ableton second. So I recommend you try those two.
