Hello readers. I have been overplaying this masterpiece, and the transformation of the vocals into the lead starting from 3:02 (link below) always gets me and I wonder how it is made. Is anyone familiar with a technique that can imitate this?

I did something similar to this during a sound design practice session, using granular synthesis. Try something in that vein and mess around with the settings, and do it with a vocal part/chop!
