Do you listen to your own music
« on: November 14, 2016, 08:36:22 pm »
I don't really listen to my music after I'm done making it. I'm usually sick of listening to it on repeat or I can't really tell whether it's good or not anymore. I prefer listening to other artists instead because they're better.

How about you guys?

I listen to my music constantly after i am done making it, because i have to go through the masters and make sure that there's no things i've missed.

But yea, i get sick and tired of it when they pass the critical listening test.

I do go back over my tunes from time to time after a few months of release or years, depending on when it's was actually finalized and no other work is being done on it.

It's a good way to consider a fresh perspective for yourself if you're analyzing yourself. It works in the same way why you listen to other people.

You get a reference point based on others, and you can get a reference point based on yourself.
Josh Huval: Honestly, the guys who are making good art are spending their time making it.

I usually don't listen after the track is done. Maybe for like a week but that's about it. I too am pretty tired of it and on to the next project.

Now it is always good to go back and listen. You might learn a few things or see how you used to do things wrong.

And I double what Marrow says. You must listen to others. 1. for inspiration or ideas. 2. to reference your own tracks to.

Having something to listen to is one of the main reasons I make music in the first place. So yeah, I listen to my music a lot.

I always listen to my music after completion now, usually for a couple weeks. I try to critically listen on as many different speakers I can find so I can reference what I need to tune up better for the next track. I used to get really tired of my tracks but lately after doing music for a couple years I feel like its been much easier to listen to now that I'm making songs that are more on par with my standards. In the past it was more trial and error and although some stuff sounded cool I was never really proud of them and those should never see the light of day lol.

i appreciate my music for where i was when i made it. the imperfections are markers of growth and development, and the ideas within them are still enjoyable.

if it's still on my soundcloud, i'm still listening to it on occasion.

Usually there's a grace period of a few weeks to a month after I release that I don't listen to it. Then, I listen to it obsessively cause, well, I made it and it's the music I wanna hear haha.

I still listen to tracks I made a couple years ago. Ofcourse not all and not daily.

I really still enjoy most of them, but I have my favorites.

I listen mainly to my music. Different forms (cars, stereos, studios) and during different times, moods, and seasons

I barely listen to my music after I'm finished with it. I usually end up comparing it to big guys who are like 35 years in the business and I end up hating myself for not being good enough . Sad life .

I love what I do with passion and have been in the game for a lot of years. However as soon as each of my tracks have come back from mastering and has passed then I don't want to hear it again at least for a year or so when I'll give a bunch of songs a whirl then get back to moving forward with new stuff.

I seem to be the odd one out but I always listen to my own music. Not even in a producer context of trying to learn and improve. I just love listening to it, it keeps me motivated and not just with music. Almost every time I start listening to music, I start with one of my own songs and just find it puts me in a great mood. Obviously this wasn't the case always, its only recently that I've been satisfied enough with my songs to listen on repeat and not find mistakes. Some might call it arrogance but I love what I make and love listening to it on repeat.

I know it's uncommon, but I like to listen to them, with about as much consistency I'll listen to other songs I like, but none of my older stuff, that was shit. hahaha but I will consistently listen to my newer stuff because I genuinely enjoy hearing them, especially my favorite album I've made, Odd/yseey, as it is a project I made that almost perfectly into the ideas I had for it and it makes me so proud of myself and in my creative ability, not for egotism but just acknowledgment of how far I've come in 7-8 years.
