Cheap Audio Interface ONLY for Headphones Use
« on: January 07, 2016, 01:18:06 am »
Hi All, This is my first post on the forums and i plan to be here quite often! (Thanks Mat Zo!)

My question is about getting an interface or just a DAC converter. At the moment i have a 2015 macbook pro (Just upgraded from my 2010) and i produce on Logic Pro X. I am looking to set up a simple studio and WONT be using monitors in my set up because they are too loud to use in my apartment complex.

For mixing my tracks i go to a friends place who has a nice monitor setup with a treated room and do all of that there. What i am looking for is a cheap interface that will allow me to get a better quality sound from my laptop to my headphones for optimum production efficiency. Again, this is the only need i have for the interface.

I dont want to spend too much money now since i will eventually be getting monitors and will need a decent interface for them.

Ive been looking at the Behringer UM2 for $32 to get the job done but i just dont know if it will produce the quality i want even if it is only for headphones.

I am considering just buying an interface now to use with the monitors i will eventually be getting when i move and just cash out on the Scarlett 2i2 or Solo.

Please let me know what you guys think!

A great interface for headphones and monitors is the Steinberg UR12

it's arguably better than the Focusrite you listed and cheaper

don't buy a behringer... please don't lol...

for quality buy something along the lines of an apogee duet or the RME equivalent.  If you are on a budget and want something with serious punch, I love having my Audio 2 DJ from NI. which can be used for 2 headphones or 2 deck mixing (if you DJ). perfect for those trips to the cafe.

Ive read a lot of reviews on the Scarlett 2i2 i was thinking about purchasing that.

anything from focusrite is going to be good :) although I don't know if you need all those features... It makes more sense to invest in a good converter
