Sample library pointers?
« on: January 07, 2016, 12:42:07 am »
Hey everyone, lately I have been trying to build my sample library for drums, percussion, risers/whitenoise impacts etc etc. For most of the years I have been producing I have never really SUPER expanded on my library and I have been buying different packs and samples lately. Any packs that you guys really enjoy (minus vengeance) Leave em below and I'll check em out!!!  :)

Can't get enough of Thomas Penton's Essential Series Drums and Percussion.

http://www.loopmasters.com/products/423-Thomas-Penton-Essential-Series-Vol1

It's hard to explain why I like the samples, but it's something to do with how crisp-sounding they are and how usable they are.

edit: Oh! and Sample Magic's Chillwave 2 pack is innnccredddibbbleeee
https://www.samplemagic.com/details/331/chillwave-2

The samples in Chillwave 2 are usable in so many different styles, not just chillwave.

One of the new ways to build a sample library for relatively little money is by signing up for Splice Sounds. They upload entire sample packs and preset packs onto the site with previews, and instead of having to buy a whole pack of fifty kicks, you just listen and pick the two or three you want. It's usually 1 credit a sample, 3 credits a preset. The subscription is about 8 bucks a month for a hundred credits, and 22 bucks a month for 600 credits. You can also "repack" samples for easy access later, to make sure you don't lose ones you find when you're low on credits, and you'll always have access to them even if you lose the files!

No genre in particular. Looking mostly for good punchy kicks, snares and some really good percussion.

Lately I've been strictly using Splice Sounds and any free packs that strike my fancy.

Seeing some great producers and artists make packs on Splice Sounds really sold it for me

Keep an eye on reddit r/edmproduction, as free samples pop up from time to time.

My favourite samples are N3Z3's Samples which can be found at https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/12761142/Web%20Stuff/N3Z-3%20FB%20-%20Reveal%20page.html

Have fun!

Also, some of my favorite kicks, sweeps, and risers have been ones that I made myself, so I encourage that too
