ADSR courses worth it?
« on: January 06, 2016, 11:51:00 pm »
Hey Producers, was thinking of signing up for the ADSR Courses to further my understanding of music theory. Anyone have opinions on the program? I primarily use massive and maschine btw.

I looked around, and I'm not sure if those courses have anything to do with music theory, It seems primarily on teaching you how to use a certain synth and maximizing its potential. If you don't know the fundamentals of modular synthesis, I doubt anyone will go far with these courses.

All of this information (or most, anyway) can be found easily and for free if you dig deep enough. I don't like the idea of paying for information you can find for free.

I signed up for a 99 cent month in November and didn't renew...some of the videos were pretty useful--others were 20 minutes of content that could have been shortened to 3 minutes...certain uploaders are much better teachers and are much more organized and prepared while others just waste time talking, etc. I'm the kind of person that watches youtube tutorials at 1.5 or 2x speed because most videos only have a few minutes of actual useful content.

I didn't renew moreso because I wasnt going to have the time to explore all of their videos the following month. There's a ton of content on there so if you have a ton of free time it is probably worth it if you're a beginner producer, or at least wait for a good deal--they always have promotions going on. You also have to be honest with yourself and realize if you're going to be impatient and want to just produce while your watching them, or if you actually can sit down and watch a 2 hour masterclass on mixing without getting bored/wanting to apply the tools to your own work, etc.

EDIT: Sorry, just saw you asked about music theory...if thats all you want to learn, I would recommend this instead: http://www.hooktheory.com/music-theory-for-songwriting

I've come across so many great tutorials websites. www.dancemusicproduction.com and also google Ill Gates methodology (his first tutorial is free to view). It never hurts to expand your musical knowledge IMO. I found recently I felt I needed to do it because I just didnt have the knowledge/experience some of musician friends had. You can find what you want for free on YouTube. I learned a ton from this website for free www.abletonproductiontutorials.com (although it's not working on my work computer...).

I would 100% recommend signing up for ADSR Courses. I myself still have my subscription after four months, and plan on keeping it.

If you don't want to pay $9.99 every single month what i suggest is paying for one month, and devote that entire month to watching those tutorial videos and take notes. I still have all my notes on every sound design episode, masterclass, so forth. It's invaluable.

ADSR IS FANTASTIC,

I used ADSR to re-inforce the things i already knew and learn new things. If you actually take the time to go through each and every course and take notes like i did, you can really take away an insane amount of knowledge on production, tips and sound design.

Without this site i would honestly be way behind where i am now at my production level.

Hope this helps!

Glad to see people have had a lot of success with ADSR, I like their YouTube videos for sure.

I'd like to throw MacProVideo out there also, it's a bit more ($25 a month) but I'm hooked on the sheer number of videos they have. Check that out too if you want to keep on learning.
