Remove "click" sound from a synth
« on: August 26, 2016, 04:13:40 am »
I am working with a Pad synth chord that clicks on every note being played. Very loud and very annoying. I tried to sweep it out with EQ but couldn't focus in on it, and tried to use compression and an enveloper as well to trim it down, but none of the above has removed the click without compromising the initial attack of the chord. Any suggestions?

what are you using for it? maybe screenshot the patch & mix chain & post here?

maybe try turning the decay down though

You probably need to change some parameters on your ADSR envelope of the volume shaper?

You're going to have to compromise the attack of the sound to some degree, because if it's happening at the onset of every note then it's a part of the transient of the sound.

If it's a pad, though, why do you want it to have a sharp attack? Traditionally speaking, a "pad" is an extra background element used to fill out space in a song, and generally you want transients on things that you want to call attention to. Not saying you're not allowed to have a pad with a fast attack of course, but it's a question worth asking.

Edit: Also this is technically a sound design question, so I'm gonna move this over to that section.

I was able to fix it! It was an Envelope attack setting that was causing the click. Thanks for the responses, made me look back at my patch and especially the attack.

Yeha, I find that having absolutely zero attack generally results in clicks but for example in Serum even 1-2ms of attack negates the click entirely.
