BIGROOM KICK
« on: August 07, 2016, 07:51:27 pm »
H E L P !!!!
Im working on a bigroom track and the leads are on a B5 note. Im looking for a kick that would go great for it but cant seem to find what note of a bigroom kick i can use. I've tried a B but that isnt so satisfying imo. Any suggestions???

E or F# would work - B is the perfect fifth of E, and F# is the perfect fifth of B.

anything from G# to C is tricky to make bass music in, just because of the way the frequencies fall. the human ear can generally hear only down to 20hz, meaning that B1 usually is very hard to hear in a sub: it will either be way too low, or too high and the kick sounds 'watery.' that's why so much EDM is in the D-F# range, theyre ideal keys in that the bass is as low as possible while still retaining its audibility.

A sub doesn't have to be one sine wave, though. You could pitch it down to B, but, for example, use a saw wave with a sharp low cut to keep it in the sub area, and a high cut to make the fundamental a little quieter. A five-string bass can play down to B0 because the first few overtones are what you hear, not the fundamental.

E: never mind we're talking about kicks, yeah F# is probably best.

It really depends on the key of the song, if the note is B and it's B min than that would have sounded good, so you might be in G#m maybe E... literally all depends on the key.

EDIT: You could also just try every note in B maj and min to see what sounds good, at least one note in one of those scales should sound good.
