Environment Issues preventing me to create.
« on: July 23, 2016, 04:15:48 am »
Anyone else get home, sit at your desk and just not want to power on that audio interface?

I seem to be stuck in a rutt where I can't focus and the only way I can practice or get something out is by hauling my laptop out to Starbucks and tool around.

Any tips for improving your environment to make it more inspirational to create? Anyone else have this issue? Could it be because I spend most of my time at work on a computer?

Sometimes but only when I'm having writers block and I still usually just try to push my way through.

How long has it been since you've taken a break? You should try taking one to recharge your batteries. If you're still not feeling inspired after that break then the issue may run deeper than just your environment.

Honestly if it were me then yes. Producing tends to be a pretty solitary activity for me. Something about spending 8hours in a room alone by myself listening to the same music repeat endlessly takes a huge mental toll on me. Leaving my room and hanging out with friends/going out really helps me recharge my batteries.

That's kind of a tough question because people are inspired by different things. In my room I have a couple of famous quotes by guys like Ira Glass and Daniel Coyle. My room is completely empty aside from a bed, and one piece of furniture. Everything else is studio equipment which I find VERY inspiring just by walking into my room. (Pianos, guitars, electronic drum kit, interface, external HDD, microphones, monitors...)

Obviously that all costs money.

Yes. It comes and goes in phases. I don't have environment to blame however so the cause of uninspiration tends to run much deeper. I just ignore it and keep on moving.

Yep, some days i don't wanna bother.

But i don't let that bother me so much.

The last thing i need is to force myself to be creative.

One problem i notice myself having is that, i work so hard to finish a track it's some what tough for me to just jump back into it and make another one immediately after finishing one tune.

Some times i can do tracks back to back, but that's random enough for me to not count on it.

I just pay attention to what i am feeling at the moment.

Also other times, i go so long with out making a track and i have generated enough ideas for one in my head, that i have to go and sit down and start capturing it. Regardless of it being "what i want in my head".

Just be aware of what your self is telling you, and roll with it.(from a serious hobbyist)
Josh Huval: Honestly, the guys who are making good art are spending their time making it.

Honestly, replacing all my regular lights with led rope has helped me get in the zone a lot faster. It feels like I'm jacking into the matrix when I turn my studio on.

Here I had a little reddit thread on my set up.

https://www.reddit.com/r/MusicBattlestations/comments/4s8p8s/clear_studio_clear_mind/

Theres an imgur link a few comments down where I go a little more in depth. But basically my studio is in a room with no windows, so all I had was this horrible anemic light. Got rid of all the shit lights and ran a few different colors of leds to bring it to life. It sounds stupid, but having warm purple light when I'm playing with synths makes such a huge difference. I've had it that way for about a year now and its been night and day for my creativity. I understand why all those high end studio builds have neon lights now.

Thanks for that, Attila. I´m gonna have to look into the lighting.  Really interesting.

make your environment more inspiring. Get some artwork to put so you can look at it when your jamming. Try getting rid of clutter and maybe re-decorate. Also make sure everythings plugged in and set up so you dont have to spend time doing that everytime you want to create (becomes a real killjoy)
