Drums and Percussion
« on: June 18, 2016, 10:23:34 pm »
So a little bit about myself, I'm a percussionist. I love drums, I've been working with drums since I was 11 years old. My one huge problem I've come across is I just don't know what to use for my drums and percussion sounds. I have a lot of mediocre samples, but they're just that. How do some of these big names get such a big percussive sound through just the means of a computer?
Not even just big names succeed with it, so it can't be anything more than what I have access to in the means of software.
Any point in the right direction would be a HUGE help. Thanks.

Investing in quality samples or a multisampler instrument like Superior Drummer will help a lot. Layering is another key point, especially in electronic genres.

i've invested in my drum sound.

I have an 808 emulator that i render out for sampling.

I have a few acoustic one shots that i use for layers and samples as well.

finding bits and pieces of what you like and combining them in different ways makes for a unique sampling experience.

much more so than just finding what other people have done.
Josh Huval: Honestly, the guys who are making good art are spending their time making it.

Most producers sample othersĀ“kicks.  If you find a good one, sample it.  I myself usually layer kicks and then remove start or tails until it sounds like I want it to.
