Novation Launchkey 49
« on: May 30, 2016, 04:10:25 am »
Hello!

I've been thinking about buying a MIDI Controller lately, so i searched and read the reviews and i think the Launchkey 49 is the best in this price range. Does anybody have any experience with it?

Another question, is it compatible with other DAWs or just Ableton Live?

It's mainly for Ableton but there is something called In-Control that is used to use the controls in other DAWs, but i can't quite understand this feature.

yea it should work with any daw that can read it.

I'd do a bit of digging to see if it is compatible with other daws though.

and quite honestly, that's more of a performance based midi controller. if you'd combine it with the apc40 mini/apc 40 and you'd be in pretty good shape for doing live stuff with ableton.

Though, even though it's more performance related, it still seems to be a good tool to have in the studio.

I'd personally would want a nice midi keyboard with weighted/semi weighted keys. I currently roll with an m audio 49 key midi controller and an mpd18. that literally have all i'll need to make beats with.

But considering how you'd want to control your automation, you might need more knobs and faders. I know i am good with just a few faders and always just write in my automation.

but that's a perspective you should consider

I have the 25 key and the mini. They're definitely really solid, and I used the 25 almost constantly until I could get my mom's keyboard onto my desk. For what it's worth, the keys and pads are great (I think the pads put out midi notes for all DAWs if you deactivate the launching function, so it's great for drums). Now the mod wheel seems to be a bit buggy (I've had this thing for a while, but I rarely ever use the mod wheel or the pitch bend), and the volume fader does as well (so I have it turned all the way down at all times). It's a little finicky in those regards, but I'm still happy that I got it.  ;D

P.S. I've shoved the 25 into my backpack a few times, so I can't say that any of these issues are Novation's problem.  ::)
Some emo kid couldn't start a band, so he picked up a computer instead. That's going pretty well.

I ended up buying the Novation Launchkey first model at guitar center for literally just $80 bucks compared to the "newer" model which had two buttons with the same function just changed. Needless to say, it's great. I use it with FL studio and the parameters work fantastically.
