Even though you addressed it, I'm still going to go ahead and suggest that you get the trial versions. Daws are very subjective in my opinion, meaning people like different daws and their functionalities for different reasons. Therefore, I believe it would be unwise to choose a daw based on what other people may think, as they may have different preferences than you do. I think maybe you should try the trials, and if you are having trouble choosing after that, then post here discussing what you like/dislike about whatever daw(s) you narrow it down to, to get opinions from people who use that/those daw(s) primarily. Just my opinion on the "daw wars"
