Lie to Me | Critique welcome
« on: May 10, 2016, 03:07:11 am »
Hey guys,

First off, this is my very first post on TPF. I'm looking forward to crowd-sourcing all my silly questions on here lol.

Here's a song I wrote, co-produced, and mixed. I'd appreciate any feedback I can get. I'd like to know what aspects I can improve on (regarding production, engineering, composition, vocal performance, etc.)

Thanks in advance!

REALLY digging the instrumental. I do feel like that piano could be raised up to get a little bit more attention in the mix. Right now the vocals have the most attention which is a good thing but for such a beautiful instrumental it makes me sad. I really want to be able to hear that loop a little bit better.

The vocal glitches were pretty interesting. Some times I feel like they were distracting from the main vocal though. Even though this is primarily a dance music forum, for this type of music I think you did a good job. I think you got a really good vocal sound which is really hard in my experience.

First off, welcome to the forum. I think the musicians here will be happy to answer your questions. About your song:

- The background vocal chops are at right angles with your vocals. They're incoherent melodically in places. It creates a mess. Luckily it didn't hurt the song that much.
- The audio clip you threw in at 2:08 actually feels like you just threw it in with the other things. It doesn't fit.
- Mixing is fine for the most part; kick could've been a little louder. Usually I want the kick to be louder than the snare and hats but not overpowering.

Other than that, good job. Hopefully you get a few more opinions.
