Too Far | Electronic beat
« on: May 08, 2016, 04:03:52 pm »
Hi all,

Been browsing the forum for a while but only just signed up. I'll be posting regularly and giving feedback on your stuff.

I'd appreciate thoughts or advice on something I just "finished" - please feel free to tear it apart

Appreciated

Hey that's awesome! This sounds really nice, like almost something exactly that would be playing in the background of a news video on youtube or something. Super chill! The snare is an interesting choice but it surprisingly fits.

Hi mate, thanks for the feedback.

I'm going to have a go at simplifying it tonight...I reckon there are some good ideas in there that I could make the most of.

I'll post an update later.

Cheers

Sup Subtitle,

Really nice track man, quality sound. I'm from the outskirts of London, nice to see some other people from the UK on here. Looking forward to hearing more of your stuff, given you an add. Have you got many tracks in the pipeline?

Not sure if this track needs much more added to it. Could maybe put some vocals in?

Also - loving the Soundcloud images/art.

Peace,

Slunk

Thanks Slunk, appreciate it

Yeah I'm from Tunbridge Wells. Really feeling the piano on your tune "The Penny Drops"...Don't You Know is good vibes too.

Going to leave that tune for now and probably go back to it in a few weeks.

Real pretty chords and REALLY digging the atmosphere. I do feel like the snare pops out a little bit too much in the mix. It sounds super dry in comparison to the surrounding atmosphere.

Also... I don't know what you call the instrument at 0:10 but they sound really good for this track! I can never remember what they're called gosh dang it but they remind me of the beach.

Well, I could try and give you some decent advice. That's hard for me to do though.

Cons:

- The kick doesn't quite fit in. I'd say deeper (more presence in the lows) a little reverb (but not too much) and maybe a quiet sfx to make it stand out more.
- It could have used a proper ending. It's better than just having the song fade in my opinion, and it would have fit the mood.
- Even though your melody and chords are great, it started to get repetitive. Try changing some of the notes and chords at times during the song, even if it's just a couple, it'll keep the listener's attention.
-  The percussion used for hats are a little too loud. Turning them down would accent the snare.
- The snare is too dry. It needs just a little reverb. In this case, the "tail" of the reverb would fade out before the next percussive instrument played.

Pros:

- I like you use of the steel drums; they're readily available but aren't used much in electronic music.
- The atmosphere also is very good.
- The melody and chords are really neat.

I'd listen to this song again. Well done.

-Annie
