These were the first pair of headphones I bought for production! I've always loved them

Audio-Technica ATH-M50

I'm no expert on headphone quality but IMO you don't need to be spending any more than what these cost to get a good end result (if anything, maybe less). In the same sense that Porter mixed an entire EP on Logitech speakers... as long as you're comfortable with the gear you have, it will work.

Hope this helps! Best of luck with your shopping

beyerdynamic DT 990 pro

if you buy something in the 300+$usd range, you're pretty much set until you're ready to break into the 1k+$usd price bracket
Josh Huval: Honestly, the guys who are making good art are spending their time making it.

For production and especially mixing I would go for a pair of open back headphone as Apossed to closed back, closed back will keep to much bass inside your headphone cups!! Open back will give you a better feeling of space, but again it does depend on your budget

I used to have the Shure SRH440s and they lasted me for like 3-4 years before breaking (mostly due to my own clumsiness) - really solid and reliable with a nice flat response.

If you are on a budget, get this http://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-108323-Headphone-Gold-Plated-Accessories/dp/B007SP2CO2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00

I have had them for a few months now and they're pretty good! Nice bass, comfortable and in contrast to my last headphones, I actually had to turn my computer down when I first started to use them haha

A good open-back pair for a pretty decent price are AKG K240's, and for added bonus they look pretty cool. http://www.amazon.com/AKG-240-Semi-Open-Studio-Headphones/dp/B0001ARCFA

Depending on what kind of budget u r on:
for $250 Seinnheiser HD25-1 II Headphones
 - these are really good and used by most pros and depending whether you do live sets as well these are your best bet. Probably dont need to spend much more than this but also V-Modas are awesome

I really feel like I'm one of only a few producers that have these headphones. I absolutely love them. Comfortable, lightweight, and I get a true clean sound.

Pioneer HRM-7

For $200 these have been solid for me.

Ableton Live 9, Tascam US4x4 Audio Interface, Akai APC Key 25, JBL LSR305s, & Pioneer HRM-07s
