Above & Beyond + Psytrance
« on: May 04, 2016, 05:30:22 pm »
Hey guys, so i'm a huge fan of A&B but also like psy trance and techno. I want to find a way to incorporate all 3 facets so this is an exercise I did for myself. I bore easily from the repetitive psytrance bass pluck but figured I should start at the fundamentals first. Everything you hear is my own sound except the vocals of course :B I kind of just messed around with the drop so don't pay too much attention to that as it'll most likely change entirely. But for the rest of the song, any feedback is welcome! Let me know what you think.

The synth and FX work in the intro are great, sounds very professional. I love the brooding swell at 0:29/0:30 as well, it's very sinister and carries a lot of weight in the mix.

The bass is mixed well when it comes in with the triplets. I would work on the timbre with your little blips like the one at 1:13 though, give them some more natural sound like hitting a wood block. I really like the sidechain work with the vocals, and they're mixed very well.

It's a really beautiful track so far man! I love how it has the elements of psytrance, techno and big room all at the same time, they all work well together in the mix. Definitely keep going with this one!!

Awesome thanks for the comment! I know exactly what you're implying with the wood block sound, I'll try to recreate that and layer it into the sound I already have. I want to finish this but I have no idea how I want it to drop into the chorus, I have so many different options-- I can go back into psy, or push into techno, or even go for progressive trance but all seem a bit "overplayed" to me. I'm still trying to find a way to incorporate all 3 so we'll see what I come up with (:
