Diplo Snares
« on: May 01, 2016, 02:20:15 am »
Hello!
I have been trying to look for samples that sound like these,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPL3NLsP__k from 1:22 to 1:29, not really sure of what kind of drums they are.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5kJDWQSBUk in the drop there is a snare that sounds really cool.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5wlxT9ygtY 0:52 until the "drop" an also the drop snares from 1:08 to 1:25

Someone knows how I can make these kind of snares? Because in every single sample pack that I see has pretty normal and mainstream snares, if someone knows a good plugin to make snares would be awesome!

Thanks guys, sorry if this is a stupid question for you!

These are pretty standard latin-style snares. Major Lazer (which is more than just Diplo) is a Dancehall group, so you're not gonna find their sounds in your typical EDM sample pack. Reggae/ton, Dembow, Cumbia, Dancehall, Moombahton - those are the keywords you should be searching for in your sample packs.

Yeah, I know that is not just Diplo, but he is man behind all, he is the mastermind of that group.

Look to the musical stylings is what mussar said, rather than person.

That's where the person got that sound.
Josh Huval: Honestly, the guys who are making good art are spending their time making it.

He uses songwriters, like most other pop musicians do. It's not like it's any big secret - the writers are credited on his tracks. Are you gonna hate on Bieber for having PooBear write his verses (instead of for being a shmuck), or Beyonce for not writing Lemonade by herself?

I would recommend, instead of trawling through modern sample packs, sample directly from the sources Mussar mentioned above.

I'd probably dig deeper than those genres. Look back through records from their lineage and you'll find some good stuff.

www.reddit.com/r/vintageobscura would be a great place to start. Search that sub-reddit for genres
