I'd recommend one or two, but you don't need to buy loads.

It's completely down to personal opinion.

Completely unnecessary, your DAWs FX are fine.

Is it worth buying extra FX plugins?
« on: January 06, 2016, 04:49:36 pm »
At the moment I don't have any extra effects plugins and use Ableton's in-built stuff. It works for me, but so many people have additional FX plugins from FabFilter, Waves, iZotope etc. Just wondering if people really think it's worth the money, or is it just personal opinion? :)

Are there any specific plugins people would recommend?

I'd say yeah, it is worth the investment of buying third party plugins.

Don't go overboard though, people often get too caught up in the hype of gear and only end up concentrating on collecting as much as they can (I got caught up in the all too, dw). Really, all you need is one decent EQ, one decent Reverb, maybe a couple of different types of Compressors, and some sort of harmonic enhancer/distortion plugin.

EQ I think is one of the more important things. I love Fab Filters Pro Q2. Excellent interface, quick and simple to use, and a decent sound out of it as well.

I like music. Is nice!

That's exactly what i'm trying to avoid ;D

Also yes i've heard a lot of good things about FabFilter's plugins; I might save up for one or two in the future.

Exactly what Hytyma said, but I would the seemingly no brainer of try before you buy, nearly every company gives out month or so long trials, and they are a fantastic tool for deciding.
As for plugin recs, the ones listed are good but I would also add soundtoys to that list too.
