What is Drumstep & what is the structure it follows?
« on: April 28, 2016, 12:02:42 am »
I know what is, like it's like Drum & Bass mixed with Dubstep is what it sounds to me right? But like I believe it follows a a 150 bpm right? How are the kicks drums set up on the down beat or? I was hoping someone could show me a visual and explain to me what it is any example would be greatly appreciated and any other advice you'd like to add would be awesome too!

This is drum step at least to my understanding.

I've always thought of it as dubstep at dnb tempo. Not too sure what that standard tempo is though. Never made a drum step track in my life so maybe others could correct me if I'm wrong.

I suggest going onto Mixcloud and listening to a bunch of mixes with the Drumstep hashtag to check out for yourself, genres are really hard to describe in words - and are imo going to become meaningless in the next few decades.

That being said, it's honestly better thought of as drum and bass in halftime than dubstep at drum and bass tempo, because it came out of the DNB scene, not out of Dubstep. Beyond that, the people who spin the songs are gonna have the most options - find tracks stand out, go buy them, and deconstruct them!

half time drum and bass.

It follows patterns to that of many main stream edm genres (they don't really change, aside from the sound they use and mixing preferences)

Mussar is on point though.
