Is it time for new monitors?
« on: April 25, 2016, 09:05:57 pm »
Hey everyone! so i've had Tannoy reveal 501 monitors for about 1 1/2 years now. lately I've been noticing that the left speaker has been rattling when sub is played, and there seems to be distortion(?) with the high-ish mids. this has just recently started happening, so any idea what this could be? is it time for a replacement?

might be cheaper to get them fixed.

I'd also figure out what the problem was and how it became a problem. (talk to the repair dudes)

Other wise, you can replace them if you want, but a more economical decision would be to repair what you have, unless you're looking for a change.

thanks marrow! I'll check around for repair shops, but I've kind of been wanting to upgrade, so maybe I'll take this as hint that I should haha.

what monitors would you recommend heatcliff? I was thinking of the tannoy reveal 802's since I have actually really liked my 501's. I'm thinking about maybe getting a sub too

I'd look into getting 8 inch speakers.

Subs are kind of unruly, and you need a larger space to use them properly. Plus you won't make people angry.

Well recommending monitors is difficult cause it all comes down to personal preference and ultimately the price tag... For the 1000< per set I personally like the yamaha's (ns80 etc), around the 3-4k price range i really like the Event Opals, above that pricerange there is my Lipinski L-70's (Pro: the most detailed / revealing / amazing nearfields you probably will ever hear - cons: still "kinda" beta - Since they build every order from scratch), also Amphions or ATC's. You see it's all a very personal taste!

myda, in the $1400 range are the APS Klasiks. You don't need a sub with them. Down to 35Hz.

I reviewed them at...
