I think I'm slowly learning more about Harmor. Generally though, I use most of the stock plugins on FL.

I am learning the PX7, parsec, and rob papen's predator. All for reason.

The rest of reason's stock stuff like thor, maelstrom, and subtractor are well known to me at this point.

Serum for pretty much everything. Sytrus for some simple basses and when I want to use the special features of the FL piano roll like portamento notes.

90% of the time i use sylenth, its just so damn versatile. when im in the mood for a challenge i mess around in sytrus, but FM hurts my head a lot. OH and 3xosc, that little thing rules.

marrow, how is it not being able to use external VSTs? reason seems super powerful but that's a big turnoff for me.

I love the stability reason offers.

You do have access to external VST's, it's just that you're limited to using them only in reason, and what is provided to you by propellerhead.

But, reason is definitely worth it in terms of the sounds you get and the access to all the different synthesizers (stock especially).

One thing that's kinda lame is the whole difference of pan laws between daws. idk if that effects exported audio being played at a different pan law setting...

It's also a bit of a difference in mindset. I have ableton and loved it, but i didn't really find that it suited my style. Plus i appreciate the analogue on a budget approach.

Overall it just fit my work flow and personality more!

But it's very powerful and extremely creative, and definitely worth a look if you want a massive expansion on sound capabilities for your main daw.

i'm pretty okay with massive, but serum scares the hell out of me. how tough is it to get into?
I was scared too, but it's similar to massive with wavetable synthesis etc... it's just so complex, I believe you can create any sound with it. So many effects and other cool features, creating own wavetables and so... just don't be scared, you don't have to use (and probably nobody ever does) every effect and every tool you have at your disposal. Even with stock wavetables, 1 filter, 1 sub and 1 envelope/LFO you can make great sounds. I'd start there, then move on using FX and various filters.and then using various tables and more :) good luck

massive and serum are both wavetable so it shouldnt be hard to learn serum

also i read serum is a modern day massive, just with better display and GUI

Great to see a fellow Harmor user! It's a long learning curve full of capability. My favourite feature so far is the ability to quickly drop single-cycle waveforms straight in - stuff like the sampled Virus TI waveforms sounds immense through Harmor's incredibly rich filters and unison mode!
Build it, and they will come.

You are me about 4-5 months ago. Used Massive like crazy, but then got introduced to Spire. Now I open Spire before Massive.

So I used to love Massive and FM8 but to be honest, I have really been geeking out to Spire and Serum lately.

The spire has so many great characteristics of my Virus but in soft synth form. I love the grundgy bass sounds I can make with it. And Serum is so rich and smooth! I don't think I could make another track without using at least one of those two synths right now.
The music industry is just a giant fail machine. There are way more broken dreams and failed artists then there are successes to speak of. Therefore, its easy to say the successes are the anomaly and the failure is the product.

I didn't buy into the hype around Serum.instead i got Reaktor 6 which i've been balls deep in for about 3 months.literally haven't touched anything else.it's not the most immediate experience, but when it clicks, it's extremely rewarding and i like the fact there is pretty much zero limits imposed on what you can actually achieve with it.well, unless you are running some kind of FDN (feedback delay network) at 96khz internal sampling rate and your laptop literally blows up before your very eyes.apart from that.no limits
