Bass house WIP
« on: January 06, 2016, 03:43:22 pm »
Hi guys, i'm currently working on this track that i think is somewhat decent: https://soundcloud.com/yens/id-1/s-bvO6t

But i really want to get some feedback since i'm convinced some of you (probably the majority) will know ALOT more about production than i do, and may hear some things that are just wrong or things that are missing.

Thanks in advance  :)

Hey first off great idea! you really need to clean up the lows when the heavy bass comes in with the kick it gets really muddy. try fixing it with eqing! also try adding some modulations to your bass lead in the chorus to get it really banging!  ;D

imo you need more variation. the wub you use on the first beat of the drop is good! i want to hear it every two bars! and besides that ur drop is only one sound. it's a good sound, but more fills or switching up the patch for a slightly altered one would be better. also, i think the main bass patch you have is a little too distorted. the hi-hat in the drop could be tighter too. gate it a little, you want something short and crisp for bass house.

Thanks! I already cut the low end on it, but if i try to cut it more it doesn't sound as full as it's supposed to be. Is there anything else i should cut on it? I'll try and experiment with the modulation!

I know there is not much variation on it and i've been trying to make/find some good synths to use with it, but nothing seems to fit right in (It's really bothering me). Could you explain a bit more about the gate thing? It's probably something very simple but i don't know how to do it tbh. Thanks for the feedback!

if you use FL studio, there's a noise gate in fruity limiter that looks like this http://i.imgur.com/b7Ymg7J.png. it just reduces the signal to 0 with the release time once it falls under a certain threshold. but that's needlessly complex, i mostly just meant take a volume envelope and do one of these http://i.imgur.com/ZPefNjm.png

I'm an ableton user, but i see what you mean (As i thought, really simple...). I've listened to some other tracks in this genre for reference and now i notice that my hi-hat's tail is too long indeed. I've tried to shorten it but then it doesn't sound that good, maybe i should just find another sample. Thanks for the advice!

Overall the ideas are solid. the lead synth at the drop is a bit stale, but it works well. Is it made in serum?
"crescendo"

It's made in massive. Just one oscilator with the carbon wavetable on it, and envelopes on the wt-position and the intensity. Plus there is a scream filter which is modulated with an LFO. Then i dropped a saturator and an OTT on it, but i don't really know how they work... It just sounded good IMO
