hard hitting 808s
« on: April 14, 2016, 03:44:21 am »
Does anyone know how to make the 808 like in this song for example:

https://soundcloud.com/zuper6/lazy-2pac-edit

or where to find a sample of it? lol

but if someone knows how to make it from scratch that'd be awesome!
thanks!

I'm hearing two basses.

The 808 drum hit sounds a bit saturated / distorted / overdriven and EQ'd, just try playing around with a high quality 808 sample that has the same decay setting.

The second bass sounds a little higher up in note, which can be easily made on any synth - Sine Wave. Then again just saturate it or use tube distortion to achieve the same sound.

Once these are made, just side chain to the kick drums to taste.  8)

Don't worry about getting it exactly right, just keep messing around with saturation, tube distortion, overdrive. Careful not to overdo it, as your sub will get lost in the distortion.

I heard Carnage knows thing or two about 808s.

...but don't overdo it, because that's called being a d***k.

You can also buss your 808's into some tube distortion (i hear tube is good for drums, and it's pretty dank imo)

Make sure you apply an eq to low cut and high cut (effectively a band pass) to the distortion so that it won't interfere with your sexy low end.

You can get some pretty good stuff with distorted drums.
