Monitors Placement
« on: April 12, 2016, 08:54:33 pm »
Hi, I was wondering if there is anything wrong with the placement of monitors, or if you have any advice. The room dimensions are 4x3m

Hey FadeX,

If possible, it's always best to avoid placing monitors near walls, especially corners. Walls will reflect and radiate sound, especially low frequencies, from the backs of the monitors and mangle what you hear. It can cause an increased level of low end and even some frequency cancellation (comb filtering) from the time difference between the actual sound and reflected sound.

I've also attached a picture that illustrates the comb filtering for you. Hopefully this helps you understand!

That is why I am buying front ported monitors. But thanks for advice!

Front ported monitors won't solve the issue.  They still need to be away from walls/corners if possible.

i heard from some where, maybe a presonus thing, that it's slightly off center of the room and either above or below the half way point of the height of the room.

That's best for bedroom calibration.

Also getting your speakers at a proper angle  and know where that sweet spot is

I've heard that it's better for your monitors to fire lengthwise down the longer side of your room.

+1 on putting your monitor on the length size of the room, in this case maybe in front of the window. Seeing you have no room treatment you will have bass buildup and unwanted reflections regardless, so definitely look into acoustic treatment!

Look at page 9 for placement of rear-ported monitors. Even 5cm (2 in) is enough. You just don't want them pressed flat against the wall.
