do you confidently finish at least one song every week ?
« on: March 11, 2016, 05:25:13 pm »
question: do you confidently finish at least one song every week ? OR do you make excuses like…

I have lots of tracks started but can’t finish them – I’m not feeling inspired or motivated – I get bored or distracted easily
I’m a perfectionist and never feel my music is finished or good enough

We all say them at some point. You know how it goes… You finally get yourself in gear to start start a new track, you get a decent loop going, then it’s downhill from there! You get a message, you flick through Facebook, you start thinking I’m not feeling this anymore, and the spark of inspiration and motivation you had has gone. You loose your flow because of distractions, negative thoughts, bad habits and lack of focus and willpower. Maybe it’s time for a little personal development? This is why I started oomf.

after a year of not doing any music, i confidently made two songs in a week.

Now, it took me a little longer to actually iron out some arrangement details, and i am planning on taking even longer for mixing and mastering.

But that's only because i have several tunes that are ready to go and i've set my release date for the year.

I haven't released anything for almost a year now. Year ago I uploaded last song, which is by now deleted off my SC, because I realized how shitty it was. My musical taste and what I do changed a lot since that time, I decided to completely reboot my "persona" - new name, professional logo and artworks, new attitude. Right now I'm working a lot of songs and I'm quite happy, as I said to myself I won't release any song until I feel it's finished.
Some people say that forcing yourself to work under a pressure of deadline helps them finish the songs, I stopped doing remix comps because I realized I don't work well under deadlines, mix and everything sounds really bad.

I don't finish a track in a week. Not even close. But I seriously doubt paid connection with other similarly troublesome guys would help me. For three reasons:

1) You have forum like this, where all you described either already happens, or can happen quite easily for free.

2) There's much larger percentage of people that need help over people that can actually provide some help. That's why WIP sections tend to be kinda quiet. I don't think your paid community would be an exception.

3) I don't know how much you plan to charge for this, but I think that good course, or new VST, or ticket to a good show, or anything else that gets you inspired is kinda better investment.

Feel free to prove me wrong. For now sorry, but no.

...also, as this forum was launched with goal of producers helping each other, posting here such offering is kind of rude. People who made this forum invested a lot of time to it for free. If I was a mod, I'd have hard time deciding if this topic should stay here.

A week?? Hell I'm lucky if its a month.

Im too picky to finish a track in a week. I usually step away from a project for a week and go back to it to see if its still sounds as good as I thought.

Now maybe if I was able to do music 24/7 I could, but not with a 40 hr a week job.

This is a genius marketing scheme.

A bold new initiative in leveraging social media and viral marketing to seamlessly promote brand integration and media synergy, to be sure.

(I could do this all day)

Too bold for my taste.

Finishing a decent song once a week is hard enough lol

What a weird thing to be charging people for... I don't think I would pay 5 euros a month for this. I wouldn't even pay 1 euro. Or any euros.

My job does a better job at motivating me to finish tracks, and instead of me paying something every month, my job pays me 8)

Good luck with this endeavour, Mr. Oomf.

I thought this was a cry for help, not a advertisement.

If i were mod i'd get rid of it.
