Parallel Processing and Kick Drums
« on: March 07, 2016, 07:53:49 pm »
I've been told a really good way to fatten up kicks is to add effects in parallel like a phaser. But I'm also told that low frequency sounds (kicks and basses) should always be in mono. This contradicts itself since phaser makes sounds stereo. Whats the right answer here? Should I run a kick through a phaser then make the output of the phaser mono then mix it back with the original sound?

Take a look at this explanation about phasers:

There do exist stereophasers, which treat left and right separate. But a classic phaser (which is just an all-pass filter the varies over time) will keep the output of a mono kick still mono.
