I think there is a problem arising with producers nowadays where they think empty space is a bad thing. It truly truly isn't. Empty space is a beautiful thing. You don't want your sound to be so full all the time. Space adds dynamics. Never forget how key dynamics are when making tracks.

Porter's remix of The Thrill is a great and extreme example. The reason the drop feels so full and inspirational is both because of sound and composition yes, but it's also because of how quiet the song is previous to the drop.

Never forget that empty space can be a great thing in a mix.

Reggae and funk is a good example of utilizing space for the entire idea to develop into a cohesive sound. bits and pieces floating in and out picking up and supporting one another.
