Noctilucent - All Alone (VOIID Remix) - Chill Track WIP
« on: January 06, 2016, 09:55:31 am »
Er... Hi or something e.e

Since almost all I heard were lame dubstepy remixes of this track I tried to make something more beautiful. The problem is that I feel like the build-up isn't very good and I don't know how to continue the track.

Sounding good man, only thing i'd say you need to fix up is the kick and clap/snare. The kick needs to come through more, maybe up the sidechain and the snare is too quiet imo. apart from that sounds beautiful as fk, keep it up!

your levels are a little off but the arrangement is good. the vocals need to come up a fair bit, and the piano and musicbox need to come down. strings/pads should be louder as well. kick and clap are both extremely quiet, and you should sidechain most of your mix to the kick. at 1:43 i think you should introduce some chord plucks and a pluck playing the piano melody you had earlier and build it up to a big half-time prog-house-esque thing.

The problem is that I don't wanna use sidechain. I'll mess around with levels but I don't think I'll end up sidechaining everything to the kick since that's the effect I want on my track xD Dunno why tho

Vocals still need work, I plan to use parallel compression since they have pretty distant levels. Adding some chord plucks is something I'll definitely try. Thanks a lot :)

Hey, sounds good so far.

The arp music box/plucky is a bit too strong. I feel like we don't hear the voice enough. Kick is weak and clap/snare too. But it has potential.

Ok I was tweaking stuff and made a new version trying to make the vocals sound a bit better and making the drums punchier

- Levels are definitely a bit off, drums especially. They sit too quiet in the mix.
- Said it before but I'm still not a fan of that clap/snare to be honest.
- Part at 1:18 could use a heavier and more prominent sidechain since the kick feels weak. It might help to have the kick fit in the mix a bit more.
- I think the reverb is a bit too heavy. Everything sort of feels "washy" because of the really thick reverb, it really holds back some parts like the piano and vocals from shining through.
- 0:56 sounds like my old house telephone. Really threw me off haha.
