[PROG-HOUSE/TECHNO] Bowts - Colonia 'EP' - Need Feedbacks.
« on: January 06, 2016, 09:50:21 am »
Hi guys!

Here is my new EP:

I'm missing a lot the oldschool vibe, at a time where people actually enjoyed music for her groove and her roundness.
So i'm planning to do more tracks like these and try to build my career around this style.

Fun fact, i've been producing under Magnus & Timon for many years (Progressive-house EDMish), and we had like support from everywhere from DJ's to Blogs because of the trends around our style (mostly EDM blogs), but for my solo career and my new style it seems like no blogs would want to write on it. So my thought is : Is my music bad ? Or am I just off the trend ?

thanks for listening and reading, would love to hear your thoughts.

Thibault

heya, nice tracks! with regard to your question, i think its more a trend thing (although I'm not into/don't follow EDM). Would love to know how you made that techno-y sub on the 2nd track! I would try tightening the reverbs slightly especially on 1st track

Thank you

The intro to Colonia reminds me a lot of Pryda, same kind of bass/bassline. When it gets to the main part, it sounds really dark. The nice sounds you add in there just make it perfect to listen to at a club, afterhours.
Stairways sounds more EDM-ish, aimed for the mainstage. I could see Steve Angello dropping this in a festival/club set. It's just pure straight up energy, we need more tracks like this.
Definitely enjoyed your EP man, downloaded the tracks, will use them in my live sets!

Something I've noticed about good progressive house is that it's super hard to get attention for. Eric Prydz makes good music, as do Jeremy and Fehrplay but other than the super stars there isn't a super big media presence. I love the track Colonia, very Pryda and very good honestly. I know a ton of Eric fans that would appreciate it, you've just got to find the right crowd.

Critique:

For a 9 minute track, I think the progression should have been a bit more pronounced. There were only a few differences between the first and second builds / drops and I think you could definitely add "that last piece" to make it an even better track.

Keep up the good work, don't change your sound for popularity!

Totally agree with everything said already.  I just wanted to say when Colonia dropped I thought "aight this guy knows what he's doing".  Mixing was super clean, and I was pumped to listen through the tune when I realized that.

I think you're off trend, like the others have said.  I don't think your music is "bad" in the slightest.  I think it's great.  Super clean.  High energy.  Great choice of sounds.

Some critique I might give though:
1) more percussion variation would be nice.  Obviously not life changing but I think it could distinguish the drops/help you build through a section/make it more interesting for the long haul (on a long song)
2) the breakdowns could be given some chord work.  I know I need to work on this more than anyone, but a good breakdown can make an entire tune for me, especially when the drop is pure energy.

Otherwise really really great tracks, dude.  You've got a new follower.
I produce for Him.  Not me.

Thanks man, i agree! Not for my tracks specially, but i do have a hard time finding new artist into progressive house. I understand that the blogs need to keep the people coming, but I feel that there are still a lot of techno-progressive fans out there (like me) that are struggling to find new music...
I do believe I could have done a better work on the progression itself I agree, I think the main reason why I left it that way is that I wanted to keep a "Live" feeling to it, with some rest in the middle if that make sense ^^!

Thanks for answering man, appreciate it !

Wow, thanks man ! I appreciate the kind words.

I hear you, really I think that I've got still loads of stuff to learn and understand even though i've producing for a while. Obviously you make a point on these drums, nothing really fancy going on but i could have done a little more, I do believe i got lazy in the process !
And of course I love melodies, I love chords progression, honestly i just didn't feel that way on colonia even though i could have give it a try !
Thanks man, again!
