Phase inversion also does wonders!

you opened my eyes. :-D

Also I suggest to try a time mixing. I mean you put snare earlier on 15ms before the kick, or after. It's more used in clap mixing. But with snares sometimes it helps too.

You guys reckon changing the attack time on a snare might help to make it less clicky?

yea, i suggested that for layering samples on top of each other.

I'd even suggest a little bit of attack time on almost any thing you can think of that would have any form of transient.

Controlling the transients makes it easier to not have a build up, and since they would start at different times, you'd get a little bit of clarity as well.

Snares usually have a very pronounced and audible tone.. If you use a snare which is in the same note as your kick, but for example an octave higher then it should blend smoothly with the kick. You just have to look for the right sample.
