Modern Classical + Trance?
« on: February 22, 2016, 08:02:58 pm »
Hey guys, I've been listening to a lot of modern classical music like Olafur Arnalds and Nils Frahm so I decided to remix on of their songs, Near Light. This is just the breakdown so it's really short. Let me know what you think! Feedback is always welcomed here.

Dang, that's really nice! I'm not even sure what to say, hard to criticize anything about it. :-)  Is there anything in particular you'd like feedback on?  The mix sounds good and wide, it's lush and doesn't hurt my ears (quite the contrary)...  Sounds awesome.

Hey thanks man! So far my problem has been creating the right amount of depth/width in my music. I could never get the musical spacing right-- Sometimes it's too wide, sometimes it's too narrow. Could you noticed if it was "off" in piece?

Not that I can tell! I mean, I'm listening on headphones, which gives a "false" sense of width some might say, but I listen to a lot of stuff on headphones, and this sounds professional. I'd have to listen on some nice speakers to give you a better answer, but I don't have nice speakers at the moment. ;)  Keep up the good work!

Okay perfect, I'm definitely trying for the professional sound. Still have yet to reach that level where I can submit my mixes to labels but it's reassuring that I'm on the right track, thanks!

really good stuff here man. You're one of the only people on this forum also making trance that I have been following. Your breaks are wonderfully deep, wide, and balanced. I'd love to see where that project ends up when it's finished!

I'm on headphones but I'll give it another go at home on my system.

Damn, this is tight. Can't think of any good constructive criticism, but it sounds great on my speakers too.

Haha yeah I haven't found many other trance producers here! I guess it's not as popular but I'm sticking with it ;P Thanks for the comment, I think I'm getting a grip on the breakdown of trance, now I'll have to work on the other aspects of this song.

Awesome to know! I think the last thing I have to do is get the mixing levels on this right, then it should be done.

I know he's amazing! I can't get enough of him. I'm currently working on finishing the song so I'll post it up here soon (:

If you don't mind me asking what did you use for that supersaw for the song in your signature? Also what vst/samples did you use for the strings? I for the love of God can't find anything for strings and it'd be HUGELY appreciated!

I created the supersaw myself in sylenth1. It's actually two layers of sylenth1's. The first is a dry, up-front synth in the mid range and the second is a more wet saw with white noise in higher frequency range. After I grouped them, I put an audio effect rack that contains two chains within it. The first one is completely dry while the second has a ton of delay and reverb to get the full sound you hear.

Dude I know the feel, for the longest time I was trying to recreate orchestral strings but it never sounded quite right. I ended up buying Ableton (had a cracked version before) and the strings came as a downloadable sound pack.
