Dual Hard drive
« on: February 21, 2016, 11:51:22 pm »
So I got a 480 GB SSD and took my optical drive out to have a bit over a TB my other drive is a hybrid at 750 so its half HHD and half SSD. How would I set up that SSD and basically put all my music on it? will it mess up any projects? D:

Working on a macbook btw

Not really sure what you're asking, is the drive installed and working? What DAW are you using?

ok ok i figured out how to boot the drive so it works now and is readable by my laptop. so when i got into disk utility it now has 2 hard drives. original and need SSD. I'm using ableton but want all my music stuff to be put on the SSD but with all the different files in different places. What would be the easiest way to get everything on the SSD. On the hybrid drive it notices what programs are used more and put those things on the SSD of that drive. Basically I want that to happen between all the drives working together seamlessly.

Sorry I'm not really a techie and feel like this is probably something simple. Go figure, I know ableton well but not hardware tech  ???

Well you can just drag any files from their current location to the new SSD. But if you move your sample packs it may cause issues. Ableton projects just save the location of each sample, not the actual file, so if you move the samples you'll have to re-locate them in the project.

What I would do is make a folder on the new SSD called Projects or Tracks or whatever, move my project files there, and leave your samples alone. Not sure I fully understand your goal, but if you have any more questions I'll try to help.

so i figured things out and all my applications will be put on the SSD and i will just have to keep the samples on the hard drive. i will say, jesus! the quickness in loading my applications is amazing!!!

only problem is i can't undo now in the project i opened. i can only go back one step D:
