Getting your own WIP stuck in your head
« on: February 11, 2016, 01:37:30 pm »
This is just something of a curiosity question tbh, so the mods should feel free to banish it to the great internet recycling bin in the sky if they feel it's for the greater good of the forum.

Anyway, getting your own WIP stuck in your head: does this suggest that your tune is good, or merely catchy, or simply that you've spent too long listening to it? Or none of the above? Discuss. Or don't.

Could be any of those things. But it does happen from time to time.

Funny because for me it's like I can't ever remember my wips or even finished tracks. No matter how catchy the melody is I just can't remember it.

It's probably catchy, you've probably worked on it too much, and it could be good but it definitely could be crap.

I have this happen to me all the time, I'll have the chorus to a song I've been working on playing on repeat in my head as I'm trying to sleep. Drives me insane.

If I can hum or whistle the tune from my WIP after not hearing it for a day or two, I know I've got something worth finishing. If I can't remember it until I pull it up in the DAW and play it... it needs work.

haha, often times I'll have the melodies i've been working on stuck in my head long after making music that I get tired of the song and forget to finish it. It sucks.

Not really, i tend to forget about it shortly after i stop working on it, mainly because i listen to music 24/7.

That's a magical thing. It could be both. ...but anyway imho it's a sign you should take a good break. Solely by logic of it. If it's good and you'll continue enjoying it, you arrive to state of over-listening it anyway. It's dangerous especially when the song is not done yet. It might stop you from finishing it at all. I call it a "musical masturbation". It's fun and natural, but high doses of it are not good for you in a long run. :D

...but don't overdo it, because that's called being a d***k.
