Vocaloids. Worth it?
« on: January 26, 2016, 05:29:48 pm »
Hey all,

First topic post here and not sure if this has been asked before. I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience using vocaloids (specifically Avanna). I was wondering if they're easy to use, a good tool to have during production if you want vocals, or if they're generally worth buying and using.

Thanks!

You trying to be Porter Robinson too?

They're expensive, that's all I know. Seem not that hard to use.

Haha I guess you could say that. I can't personally sing nor do I have the equipment to record so this seems like the logical next step. And being around $60 USD doesn't seem too bad for a VST, so I'm debating whether I should even bother.

I usually end up hitting the next track button when I hear songs that use these type of vocals.

This is entirely my opinion, but after over a decade of auto-tune and baby pitched vocals, I'm read for real singers again.

Hi Dnaha, how far down the rabbit hole do you want to go? ;D

I've seen more than that. Really, the expensive comes with buying the specific vocaloid 'packs'.

I highly recommend it. If not for creating final vocals, its good for getting vocal ideas down before you send to vocalists.

It's just a shame that it's so non-user-friendly and expensive

EDIT: Btw I never try to do the pitch changes in vocaloid, I just do it all one pitch and edit it in melodyne

Thanks for the response! I'll keep this in mind if I ever decide to go ahead and try them out (which I think I will end up doing).
