From my attempts at remaking Porter's The Seconds, I began developing a new way of looking at how I process my kicks. In his track the sub part of the kick ends around 49 hz, yet the main thump of the kick comes in around a higher sub frequency. In my head I began to add another layer of Kick thinking in addition to the normal 'attack, body, and sub' of the kick.
This is hard to explain haha but basically try to think of the sub portion of your kick as its own solitary kick, with its own attach, body, and decay. Make sure to only thing of the sub part from around 40 hz-100 hz. This way, you can manipulate the sub to have more thump by increasing its attack (which would be closer to the 100 hz mark) Or you can decrease the attack and give a more smooth 808 sound to the kick.
I hope this helps if you have questions about what I'm trying to say please let me know, because this has helped polish my kicks off amazingly.
