WIP | techno=ish?

Song I've been working on lately, I don't know if I'd really classify this as techno but.  Would really love any and all feedback/tips/criticism on this track  :) Sorry for the abrupt ending, haven't figured out if I just wanna fade it out or end it a different way so it just drops off.  Also, volume is low so you'll probably have to raise it.  I've been having trouble keeping the volume up on my tracks without them clipping.

The kick is a little boomy (not bad think just notable) and I think it needs a different set of hihats, maybe a crisper clap too haha. The rides at 3:32ish need to be either removed or changed, it sounds really strange there.

I think whats really holding this track back is the percussion / drums. It sounds very "limited" and really really fake. Maybe thats the sounds you're going for haha idk. If so make sure they are better mixed in with the rest of the track, especially the hihats and rides.

Your bassline and kick are mushing together and making your low-end very messy. Frequency spectrum-wise the track is also very bass-heavy.

The name Triangles fits it well. I kinda like this tbh - it has a certain charm to it. :D To me there's not necessarily anything wrong with the beats you've used. But, I don't feel like I know enough about techno to know whether the simplicity of the track is good simplicity or bad simplicity, if you know what I mean. Hopefully there's some peeps on here into obscure, noodly techno :D

i think if u wanna start out the song with all the drums going in, add some more effects to fill up space. with techno-ish in ur case, u dont want any dead space, just to make it more interesting or dark or anything u want.
just my 2 cents BUT if u were going that warehouse type vibe, stick to that ongoing beat

Voyali - Do you think the hi-hats are cutting through too much? I have a hi-pass filter on them at the moment.  By limited with the drums, do you think adding a grove, maybe messing around with the pattern would be a good idea?  try to make them more human-like.

Bertie South - Maybe change the bassline up an octave so that it stands apart more from the drums?

Guppi - yeah I wasn't necessarily going for that dark warehouse vibe on this one, just labeled is as techno-ish because I wasn't really sure if it would be considered techno or tech house.

Thanks for the feedback!!!  :)

I think this has a really cool dark warehouse techno vibe (I agree with Guppi, I'd definitely keep that ongoing beat) - but you should try changing the high hats, I'm not sure that the ride that comes in around 1:19 and 3:31 particularly works. Maybe try adding a closed hat on 1/2 or 1/4 beat instead?

Big fan of both synth sounds you use (the small bleep that comes in around 0.32 and the other 'tom' sounding one that fades in around 2:00)

I'd also try to make your bass drum a bit more 'punchy', just to distinguish it a bit more from the bass that you've used.

Sounding really cool though, keep at it! :)

Not necessarily. Just make sure that there aren't any unwanted frequencies in the low end and that the sounds are tight (so start with decent sounds, then use EQ and compression to tidy and tighten them up if need be), and that the bass from the kick and from your bassline aren't clashing - you don't want them playing at the same time when it comes to sub frequencies. Sidechaining the bassline will help with this, as long as you know what you're doing.

FreddieLaker - i've been playing around with it in Ableton and I see what you mean with those hi hats, they don't fit lol.  Thanks!

BertieSouth - gotcha, thanks a lot!
