DREAMSTATE influence! Trying out Psytrance mixtures :3
« on: January 23, 2016, 12:13:55 am »
Hey guys, so this past week I attended Dreamstate SF and was completely blown away. So I decided to try my hand to included some psytrance elements in my production. Please let me know what you think! The first part is heavily psy while the breakdown is more progressive trance.

Dude! Really digging this track, I love trance. For some reason at 1:45 it sounds like there too much going on.

Thanks for the reply! Hmm maybe I put too much high hats? I'll take a look at the mix. What do you think about the blend between psy and progressive trance? I don't know if I should trash it and focus the song entirely to one type of trance genre.

Yea I think that's it. It feels a little cluttered in the percussion side. And I think you should make them into two separate songs for sure! I like the blend its cool. But I really like the first part of the song. It had my head bobbing the whole time.   :D :D

Okay good to know! I think I'll try to create it as one song because that has been the goal from the beginning. But if there is really no progress there, I'll do two separate ones.

The bass could be tighter, you're definitely headed in the right direction with it but it lacks that tightness and punch you get out of that popular Kearney/Coming Soon/Vini Vici style bass. I feel like you might have a bit too much in the 150-250 range which can really detract from a bass like this. Also when working with the typical rolling bass, I usually make sure to shorten the midi notes a bit so they're not butted right up against each other and then give them a quick (but not abruptly ending) release, especially in the case of your sub, the release could overlap with the next note and muddy the hell out of your bassline.
