audio interface: UR22 vs focusrite 2i2 vs ni audio 6
« on: January 20, 2016, 07:59:55 pm »
i wanted to get into producing and starting to pick out the gear i want to buy and i need help on picking an audio interface. was hoping one might have one of these interfaces. I decided to produce on cubase so far i like the daw. i mostly want the interface to connect my studio monitors, maschine, and a turntable to sample from records from and possibly a midi keyboard. so i wanted to know from these three that i have narrowed it down to would be the better choice for reducing latency and has good pre amps to records volcals and guitars. thanks in advance for your input or recommendations

I have a focusrite 2i2 and really like it, can't say much for the others since I've never used them. Also, most newer midi keyboards are connected by usb, not with an audio interface. For a hardware synth + midi keyboard you will need one.

I have the UR22 and it works very well -- especially at its price point. To echo ed brooks' post above, I have Ableton Push and a Midi Keyboard running through to my laptop's USB. The only thing I run through my audio interface are speakers and mic.

The build quality of the NI Audio 6 is questionable imo. I had issue with mine so I took it back to Guitar Center and bought a Tascam US4x4. Ive been happy ever since.

So my vote would be for the Steinberg or Focusrite. I think you should be good with either one of those.
Ableton Live 9, Tascam US4x4 Audio Interface, Akai APC Key 25, JBL LSR305s, & Pioneer HRM-07s

I settled on a UR22 after doing quite a bit of research on the 2i2 and UR22. It seemed like people were quite satisfied with both, but that 2i2 users had more issues with drivers, reliability, and product support. The UR22 $50 cheaper but despite that it is a really quality build. Quite happy with mine.

You'll have really nice integration with Cubase with the UR22.  :)
