SUB BASS HELP! (C0-C1) OR (C1-C2)??
« on: January 20, 2016, 04:30:58 am »
Hey guys, I have a bit of a noobish question. Does your typical basic sin sub bass work better in the C0-C1 region or the higher octave of C1-C2?

I always find it frustrating when have of my sub notes are perfect/full, and the others are either too low (less than G0) or too high (greater than A1) to give you the 'sub' thickness.

Any advice on how to get a consistent sounding sub through different notes?
I'm just that guy that loves sound. Message me if you also love sound.

That's bass dude, you're dealing with frequency and science.

The only way to get that "consistent" sound is to actually be consistent. I know you can taper off some of the low end on the keys that are typically "higher in pitch" to keep it sort of consistent.

But you need to go study how a bass guitar works, and you'll find out it's strikingly similar.

It also could be the velocity you're playing at or even the pitch of the synth you're using.

and typically a bass sound is layered with a few parts that comprised a "consistent" sound as well. because the layers cover more audible range than sub sonic range.

Josh Huval: Honestly, the guys who are making good art are spending their time making it.

I've found D1-A1 is a nice range for sub bass. That's the area where I usually land, of course depending on the feeling/subbiness you want, and musical key. Consistent sound? You could use a variety of tools such as amps, compressors, saturators, etc. to kill any unwanted peaks and keep the levels consistent.

Co-C1 is my sub.

Anything above that is my lower-mid bass.

I think I know what you're talking about, best way to remedy it IMO is to layer two synths an octave apart, compress them, and then throw on a hard lowpass
