The Mono Build Trick

I just saw this quick tutorial from Hyperbits about putting automation on your build to slowly descend into Mono and then back to stereo on the drop to make it hit harder.

What are everyones thoughts on this?

I've used this before... some thoughts:

-If done quickly, it sounds bad
-If many elements are playing at once (riser, fx, synths, bass), it sounds bad

but

-Sounds great with only bass + riser
-Works best when you save this trick for the final chorus/drop

Interesting, can you explain a bit more about this? I've been using some fairly rapid mono-stereo transitions to enhance certain sounds, just wondering if I should avoid that trick.. cheers

What a great idea, why didn't I think of this myself? Thanks!
