Deep Progressive House WIP
« on: January 19, 2016, 05:19:31 am »
Hey everyone!  Hope all is well.

I need help.  Im really excited about this track and I am really determined to finish it, but lately its been hard and discouraging for me to finish it because I've been listening to it over and over and its losing its impact on me, and its starting to get stale. I may have to resist listening to it for a couple days to get a fresh perspective, and thats what im looking for from you guys.  8)

So anything that you feel like would positively contribute to me finishing this track would be much appreciated! I welcome all feedback except the douchey kind  :)

UPDATED 3/7/16:

So I've been squeezing in time to work on this track these past few weeks and im experimenting with a new guitar I added as well as several other changes.  This school semester in combination with a girlfriend makes it pretty hard to finish this BUT I MUST! With the help of everyone hopefully!

soundcloud really ruins the quality of your sounds sometimes. oh well. please excuse the sloppy mixing as well!

Definitely needs some type of atmospheric intro, maybe you could make one out of that vocal chop and reverse it, sometimes i like to record a sample but drowned in reverb and make a pad/atmosphere out of that. Other than intro and mixing/loudness. this is a dope track, arrangement wise, you should really drop it fat at the end because thats an epic buildup. have a ton of percussion drop in and really bring up the energy.

I really enjoyed this. I love the fact that is is not maximized to fuck and it was very nice to listen to it.

The arrangement seems to be pretty solid.

I'd add some more percussive elements and I'd beef up the snare a bit and add some snare fillers or something similar.

It's simple but it works extremely well. You could make some of the synths like the arp a bit louder. Some extra reverb would work too.

Hey,

I like this overall, here's a couple of things I would do:

Do something different with that vocal snippet. Maybe use a delay of 3/4 beat instead of 1 beat and use an LFO to filter and/or pan it, something like that.

I would lose or change the last couple of notes from that piano hook, but that's just me. When I first listened, it seemed to come in from the same stereo position and frequency range as that arpeggio too.

That riser in the build-up sounds a bit harsh (or at least the way it jumps straight in). Something softer might fit better with the rest of the track.

Those things aside though, I like where this track is going. I like the bassline progression, and the use of modulation and subtle effects. It needs a few more things going on to feel like a complete track, but it's off to a good start. Reminds me of some of my favourite bits on Anjunadeep.

I agree with what's already been said, riser doesn't really fit the track. The "breakdown" is awesome, love the bass there. The whole track definitely has an anjunadeep vibe to it.

Wow Bertie, thank you for taking the time to listen to my track so carefully and give me spot on feedback, and the anjunadeep comment is very flattering honestly.  You can tell what inspires me, haha.  Thanks again and I'll be checking your stuff out as well  :D

sforys, thanks for pointing that out also, about the riser.  Im starting to agree, thanks for your feedback as well!

Really beautiful atmosphere you managed to create. Not a whole lot of highs which makes it easy on the ears if that makes any sense. The "deep" progressive house isn't really my go-to genre but I found the arrangement to progress quite nicely. Didn't find things to be to repetitive. I think some parts would sound great with male vocals like the kind you hear in above & beyonds tracks.

Granted I'm not the best at mixing but nothing sounded particularly off to me.

The only thing that I think its missing is something to make the track special. I think the atmosphere you managed to create is what made the track for me.

Hey thanks for the feedback Lydian!  I would love some above and beyond type of male vocals, maybe I should just PM them and ask them for some ;D wouldn't hurt to try.

not a whole lot of highs I know.  Easy on the ears is right and yes that does make sense, i try to avoid overcrowding the 2k and up area specifically for that reason. Thanks for giving me your fresh ear perspective on that  :)

I agree about the something missing to make it special.  I will be working on it all this week during spring break and maybe I'll have a breakthrough!  ;)

thanks again!

I don't really have anything new to say; I think you've already been given lots of good tips. Just wanted to say I really like the track. I can see why you're so eager to make it as perfect as can be  :D
I love all the little layers you put together to really create a great atmosphere, and I think the bassline sits in very well, not overpowering and just drives the track along nicely.
Keep up the good work man, the girlfriend can wait  ;)
