Mixing / Mastering with Logic Pro X
« on: January 19, 2016, 04:27:27 am »
Hey everyone, my name is AJ and I am new to the Producer's Forum and I have several problems with my final mixes after I finish a track using Logic X.  For example, just now I finished a new track (which I am particularly excited about) and after EQ'ing everything and getting the volume to where I want it, I bounced it to a wav format and then I listened to it in my iTunes library!  To my dismay, the track sounded VERY crappy and quiet in some areas; although in the DAW it sounds fantastic.  This happens to almost every track I finish then bounce to a .wav, and I am extremely puzzled as to how to fix this issue.  If anyone has any expertise in this kind of field, PLEASE let me know as I am quite frustrated and very eager to fix this issue.  Thank you.

Sincerely,
AJ Berg

Instead of listening to your track in iTunes, try listening to tracks you think others have made that sound great inside your DAW. Compare them side by side with your own track. Are certain elements louder or quieter? Is the dynamic range different? Are certain elements panned or spread in drastically different ways? How's the groove?

Ask yourself these questions and any others that come up when you ask yourself the basic question of "What does their track currently have that my track currently does not?" You'll find yourself with a great direction to go when fixing your tracks. :)

Turn off the EQ in iTunes library.

Also don't have "normalize" checke off when you export. Try exporting to WAV to see if it's still changes the sound. Using Wav and not normalizing should give you exactly the same sound as in the DAW.

Issue is most likely an export setting or some sort of processing elsewhere on playback (i.e. the EQ in iTunes).

All things being equal it should sound identical before and after rendering.

Are you sure it's not clipping like crazy?  Do you have a limiter on your master?  Neither Logic nor the internal mac sound system has a built-in limiter, so you can go way above 0db without audible distortion.  But once you export your track to audio, it gets automatically clipped at 0db (if you don't have a limiter).
