Echoed kick drums?
« on: January 19, 2016, 12:33:58 am »
Ive been coming up on jersey club songs that use these really Low heavy echoed kicks. examples: https://soundcloud.com/nadus/nadus-marriage-proposal-gutta-remix-8 (0:43) and https://soundcloud.com/nadus/nadus-nxwxrk-dj-sliink-remix-7 (1:25). I would usually slap a reverb on with a high dry/wet value but it isnt doing the job at all. any suggestions?

the way the sound doesnt continue after a certain point leads me to believe that that's just the kick sample itself

My exact thought.

...but the sample had to be made somehow. I think it is a reverb, but skillfully mixed in. No pre-delay, lot of modulation. They probably had input lowpass and highpass filters (and/or dampning) set so the tail is not grainy and also it doesn't clash with the bass. Probably mixed the reverb's output independetly for further EQing.
