I really want to know how Ilan did the layering of this awesome track.
I can hear the chord progression, but I have no clue how he layered the saws.

Please help me.. :(

When I think of Ilan I think of Maor Levi. He's on the board here too, so you could ask him. He can jump in once a while on topics like this.  :D

Been trying to figure out how to get even somewhat close to that status for awhile. It's so hard...

Don't know if you've ever watched this, but he did an interview with Sonic Academy a while back and gave some little insights into some of his habits and his 'wall of sound' style. It's worth a look anyway..

its got to do with covering the frequencies, the highs, mids and lows by stacking the right sounds and you need proper EQing

armin said he needed 20 something sounds for the main lead in, this is what it feels like, HOLY fuck seriously
it was in one of the interviews he did with UAD plug ins i think

20 layers for a lead? :o

If you need that much, he's choosing the wrong sounds.

it was 12 sorry for the main lead in This is what it feels like, its around the 10min mark, it was awhile i ago i watched that video
armin also says he has used up to 6 layers for a clap, in another you, the track on his latest album, in the above youtube link
benno then says they use a lot of soft synths, but i think armin owns a virus though in his studio i think, armin uses a lot of massive and sylneth, omnisphere i believe

i also remember hearing ilan bluestone doesnt layer his kicks, he just has 1 kick, somewhere in the freshly squeezed interviews

White noise, distorted saw basslines, layers and layers of saws, layered claps, high hats.

Layer everything.

Something that has helped me in the way of understanding the complexity of the sound design of some of those big producers at the moment is listening to their songs in relation to my projects in loads of different environments on different speakers / headphones.

Using Refrence mixes outside of your normal studio setup can help a lot.

Different frequencies will show through under different circumstances and this process can help the brain understand what exactly is happening inside of those gynormous walls of sound these guys are able to make.

Damn just watched this, so inspiring! Gave very insightful advice as well. I want to try a collaboration at some point, any San Francisco trance enthusiasts want to give it a shot?! Two brains are better than one (:
