Before: All kinds of complex MasteringTool9001's

Now: A limiter

No but the problem for me with using a lot of plugins on the master is that I get so carried away with it that it usually sounds worse than the mix. It all depends on the track really, sometimes some multiband compression will do magic, sometimes it wont. Same goes with everything. But Yeah I still use EQ's to cut shit when I'm done with the track.

What I've noticed, for me, using multiple plugins or complex chains just tends to fuck my mixes up. I might change my mind and preferences as I do stuff. I dunno. Mastering is overrated imo.

My master chain:
1. EQ (Cut 30hz, 18khz)
2. Ozone Imager (wide up the mix)
3. Ozone Exciter (high frequency saturation)
4. The Glue (glue compression, ~4db gain reduction)
5. OTT (multiband compression, Depth: 5-10%)
6. A.O.M Invisible Limiter (Turn up input gain until it's loud enough)

I recently redid my master chain by removing all but two things. I'm not an audio engineer and I haven't done music for years and years. I've kept more focus on the tracks themselves lately as I kept messing up my work by trying to add this and that on the master channel. Plus I'm in an apartment with no subwoofer. So for now I will accept the fact that I will have someone else master my work. With that said, here is my master chain....

Seven Phases Spectrum Analyzer
Voxengo Elephant (Not for the limiter but for the WAV graph.)
Ableton Live 9, Tascam US4x4 Audio Interface, Akai APC Key 25, JBL LSR305s, & Pioneer HRM-07s

Bump for thread visibility.
Stop overdoing shit. Stop downloading new plugins for the sake of it. Your fancy stereo enhancer won't make you any better musically, your hard work will.

I'm thinking people are going to use this thread and apply it without knowing what they are doing, probably even during producing.

I find myself not quliafied enough to do the mastering, so I'm keeping it as clean as possible. However, starting a study in september this year that teaches mastering. (in different genres)

Ableton EQ8, a limiter, sausage fattener. I master for volume and thats it. My mix sounds the way I want with stereo wideness and the EQ is just to take care of super low and super high end frequencies.

nothing going on my master channel typically (sometimes plugins that are performing time based changes).

But I'm a producer, not a masterer, and I philosophically believe in letting the masterer be in charge of the master track, in the same way I believe an author should not be the editor of his/her own book.
