Hazard Nova - 29 [rock, not EDM]

My standard intro/disclaimer, please read:
  • I sing and play guitar and bass. I use Garageband to snythesize drums (see #3).
  • I am NOT a professional musician and am not trying to be; I have a day job that I love and am successful at.
  • I started learning music production a little over a year ago, but it's a very part-time hobby; I don't spend any money on it and don't plan to for a while.
  • I like talking and learning about music production (thus why I'm here) but I'm more likely to hire a producer/mixer to help me record than get seriously good at it myself within the next 5-10 years. The stuff I've recorded now is just to get my ideas down and get other people interested.
This is one of the first songs I recorded. I wrote it around my 29th birthday. I'm looking for feedback on the songwriting, the arrangement, the lyrics, stuff more in that vein. If it reminds you of a song you know and like, that's really cool too--let me know which one.

Thanks!

This was the first song I recorded, and I lay the vocal tracks in the back of my car! (Can't sing too loud at home, as there's usually a little one napping...) I've actually thought about redoing this one, except I think as a "demo" it works (conveying the structure/form of the song, the arrangement, etc.) and I'd rather not put in more work than I need to when there are new songs I'd like to record.

Your feedback was helpful and encouraging! Thanks again.
